A School Bag of Emotions & a Lot of Lavender

A School Bag of Emotions & a Lot of Lavender

I’m pretty obsessed with my children.

I lovingly tell them to chase their dreams, follow their hearts, travel the world…all the while wishing them to stay in my world/house for ever.  Like I say…I’m pretty obsessed.

Despite how excited I become for the summer holidays every year, around about the six week mark I start to need them back at school.  I need to get back to work, they need another teacher, I need space, they need space, they need structure, I need coffee.

And yet.  It’s just a whole whirlwind of emotions.  We all know we need the school structure, but we all know we will miss each other.  A lot.  There’s also excitement, worry, newness, nostalgia, too many clothes labels, not enough matching socks…it’s all emotionally…a tad confusing.

Now, during the Summer I diffuser very few oils, probably because we spend little time at home and my routine is so very out of whack! However, the weekend before school goes back the aromatherapy diffuser is dusted off and the Lavender Essential Oil makes an appearance.  The soothing, calming relief that Lavender Essential Oil brings to the house is almost instant.  The herby, floral familiarity soothes the very wild emotions that we are all experiencing and it helps to keep us feeling settled.

Lavender Essential Oil, as we know is a wonderful oil for calming the mind, inducing sleep, reducing anxiety, promoting happy feels, alleviating pain and is an all-round hero.  And honestly, for all these many reasons it is a staple for helping the Go-back-to-School shock be a little easier.

Here’s a few of the ways I use Lavender Essential Oil with my kids for the Go-Back…

  • Sleep Routines | Our Summer consists of late nights and off routine fun so for us, getting back to sleep = getting back to school.  For this, I add a few drops of Lavender Essential Oil to the kids pillows to help them wind down and settle back to an early routine bedtime.  Single. Night.

  • Anxiety Busting | During the first week back at school I put a dot of Lavender Essential oil on the cuff of their cardigans and remind them that if they’re feeling worried or missing me – they can simply sniff their sleeve for a little worry relief.

  • Lavender Diffuser Blends | The thing is…it’s not just the kids that are riding the emotional rollercoaster…I’m right there with them.  So, that aromatherapy diffuser is on working super hard to support us all. Here are a few of the calming diffuser blends that I love to diffuse
Calming Diffuser Blend
3 drops of Lavender Essential Oil, 3 drops Geranium Essential Oil
Relaxing Diffuser Blend
2 drops of Lavender Essential Oil, 2 drops of Clary Sage Essential Oil, 2 drops of Bergamot Essential Oil
Chill Out Diffuser Blend
3 drops of Lavender Essential Oil, 3 drops of Frankincense, 1 drop Bergamot Essential Oil

So there you have it…in a blink of a summers eye…off back to school they go.  But at least they are going back with the calming support of me and a whole lotta Lavender Essential Oil.

Much Love & Happy School Return
